Not many people can spark a fashion frenzy quite like Sarah Jessica Parker. The style icon paid a visit to Seattle Wednesday to launch her new line of shoes and limited accessories at the Nordstrom flagship store. Hundreds of women slipped on their best stilettos and lined up to catch a glimpse of the girl who made “Manolo Blahnik” a household name. Finally, almost 10 years to the day after the Sex and the City finale, SJP has her own line of shoes that the “Carries” of the world will be obsessing over for years to come. In fact, one of the most classic shoes in the line, a T-strap pump, is called The Carrie!
I got the incredible opportunity to meet Parker and ask her a quick question before she greeted her fans for an autograph signing. I can honestly say this will go down as one of the most memorable days of my life! She was so gracious, down-to-earth, and personable. I shook her hand and said, “Hi, my name is Jennifer,” and I was delighted and a little bit surprised when she replied, “I’m Sarah Jessica,” just in case I had been living in a cave and didn’t know who she was.
Parker was absolutely glowing. And yes, her eyes really are that blue! It’s not just the “glam lights” on TV talk shows. Stunning. She wore a gray, pocketed dress that I am still coveting. She told me she was “thrilled” to be launching her line in Seattle. Her fans were just as thrilled, some of them visibly trembling after spending a few minutes, one-on-one, with one of the most fashionable women in the world.
I learned the first person in line arrived at 6 am and traveled all the way from Arizona to buy a pair of Parker’s shoes and meet her in person. That’s fashion dedication, my friends.
Do any of the shoes catch your eye? When I asked if Parker had a favorite, she wouldn’t spill. She said she never picks favorites, and why should she?! Shoppers will spend an average of $300 to literally walk a mile in SJP’s shoes. Of course, my dream shoe is at the high end of the range. The “Allison” bootie. Look here and obsess. Go ahead. I’ll give you a few moments.
Back again? Ok.
Watching Parker, I couldn’t help but wonder if she knew how special her appearance was to all the girls, like me, who partially survived their 20’s by living vicariously through her “Carrie” style. Thank you, Sarah Jessica!
