I am not a breakfast person. Never have been. My mom used to force feed me cereal each morning before school. It takes my stomach about 2 hours to wake up once I get moving in the morning, but every once in a while I get a serious craving for a full-on, no holds barred, bring it on, dinner in the morning…breakfast. And if you want a serious breakfast, you gotta check out Serious Biscuit in Seattle’s South Lake Union District.
Seattle’s own James Beard Award winning chef Tom Douglas opened a breakfast nook inside his famous Westlake Pizza restaurant, Serious Pie. It kinda makes me want to bring a cot so I can take a nap after breakfast, then go round 2 for the pizza! I’ll look into that later!
As the name would imply, the breakfast menu includes all kinds of biscuit breakfast choices, but if you come here, you might as well blow it out with The Zach (pictured above). Let me break it down for you: Biscuit, fried chicken, fried egg, bacon and gravy. Yeah, you’ll need a nap later, but at least you won’t regret choosing lighter fare when you watch the servers bring out order after order of The Zach and think, “I shoulda got that!”
Joe and I loved it so much, we rounded up some friends and went back a week later. To shake it up I ordered the fried green tomato, bacon, remoulade and egg biscuit. Serious Biscuit is so seriously amazing… it keeps you coming back for more! I seriously want to order “one of each” from the menu. On the agenda for my next trip: the ham, egg, beecher’s cheddar and apple mustard biscuit! Now that’s something even my lazy stomach would agree is worth waking up for!
